Coubertin Quote for Apr, 21
Sport is an excellent prep school for our lives these days, and an excellent peacemaker, too ... It drives away ill will, replacing it with a zest for life.

From the beginning of his mission to reform education, Baron Pierre de Coubertin was certain that the ‘school of sport’ would help transform the behavior of young people everywhere.  He never tired of finding ways to express the benefits sport in education could deliver, believing it would produce better citizens leading fuller lives—and contribute to peacemaking in the process. This excerpt is from 'Sport and the Social Issue,' an article published in La Réforme Sociale in August 1913.

“Sport would seem an excellent preparatory school for our lives these days, and an excellent peacemaker, too ... It destroys envy because of the absolute, nearly mathematical justice of which it boasts. It drives away ill will, replacing it with a zest for life.”
